Christelle van Zyl started working as a full time artist in 2009 and is currently based in Stellenbosch. She studied for the BA degree in Fine Arts at the University of Pretoria and UNISA from 1976 untill 1981.
Her first major exhibition, entitled BLACK, was held concurrently at the Gallery at Grande Provence in Franschhoek and Galerie de Medicis, Place des Vosges, Paris, France, in 2014, when she exhibited with the acclaimed French Artist, Andre Nadal. She participated in various group
exhibitions and Art Auctions in the Western Cape since 2009, at galleries such as De Oude Libbertas and the PJ Olivier Art Centre in Stellebosch as well as the Bright street Gallery in
Somerset West. She was chosen as one of the top 100 entries of the Sanlam Portrait Competition in 2014.
Christelle worked in Paris as part of an Artist-in-residence program at the Cité Internationale des Arts in 2012 and 2015. In 2015 she completed a portrait painting workshop in Rome with the renowned American portrait artist, David Jon Kassan.
She works mainly in charcoal on paper or oils on board or canvas and enjoys investigating a variety of themes and subjects. Her focus is currently on portraits and organic objects.
